These are a sequence of pictures I took of a young girl surfing at Carolina Beach this summer. As I was framing the shot, the girl happened to fall off her surfboard, and I was able to capture the moment. Of course, she got right back up on the board.

The pictures are a bit soft because I was standing a bit far away and shooting with my zoom lens. This has been a challenge for me: I dont’ feel comfortable about just going up to people in public places and pointing a camera at them, and I feel like if I go up to them and ask if I can take their picture, it’ll make them tense up or stop doing what they were doing, which was what caught my attention in the first place. So instead, I’ve been staying a bit farther back and using a zoom lens. Seasoned photographers who are reading this, any advice on that point?

We went to the UNC-Georgia Southern football game a couple weeks ago. The weather at the game was kind of strange, looking ominous with black clouds gathering, yet also with the sun shining through the clouds.
