It's been a while since I've posted here. Blame it on school. But I did find time for a few shots over Thanksgiving while visiting the in-laws. Here's one from a set I took of my 2-year-old nephew chomping down on bacon.

One of the unexpected treats of our recent trip to San Francisco was how photogenic Alcatraz proved to be. The Rock provided plenty of elevated vantage points from which to photograph seagulls in flight with the city as a gorgeous backdrop. Here's one of my better shots from the batch.

I've always loved pictures of rivers and waterfalls where the shutter speed is so slow as to make the water blur together like a smooth piece of silk. When we went to Linville Falls in western North Carolina a week ago, I knew I wanted to try that, so I carried a small but weighty tripod in my while hiking all around the falls. Ironically, I didn't even end up using the tripod. Instead, I found a nice perch on the rocks and just used one of them to steady my camera.

Quite simply, I hate lizards. It's a completely irrational hatred and fear, but something about them just creep me out every time I see one scampering around the yard. So it says something about my love for photography that when we came upon this lizard under a bush on the edge of Greenfield Lake in Wilmington, N.C., instead of turning away in disgust and keeping my distance, I picked up the camera and snapped away. Looking at this picture, however, still makes my skin crawl.

We went to Wilmington and Carolina Beach for a few days this weekend, and on one of the days we visited Greenfield Lake in Wilmington. As usual, there was an abundance of wildlife on the shores around the lake, including a mother duck and her flock of adorable ducklings.

One of my favorite photos from our recent Baltimore/Washington, D.C. trip. We had never had much luck getting a good look at gibbons in zoos, much less take good photos of them, but this female gibbon at the National Zoo in D.C. was very cooperative and held this pose for quite a while.

One of the new stars of the North Carolina Zoo is Nori, an eight-month-old chimpanzee. We saw her for all of 45 seconds on our visit Saturday as her mom carried her across the exhibit before disappearing over a ridge. I managed to snap a few pictures, and this was the only one where Nori was facing the camera.
