We went back to the North Carolina Zoo on Saturday, and this time, after some waiting, I was able to get a few clear looks at Nori, the 10-month-old baby chimpanzee.

Face of My Enemy

Quite simply, I hate lizards. It’s a completely irrational hatred and fear, but something about them just creep me out every time I see one scampering around the yard. So it says something about my love for photography that when we came upon this lizard under a bush on the edge of Greenfield Lake in Wilmington, N.C., instead of turning away in disgust and keeping my distance, I picked up the camera and snapped away. Looking at this picture, however, still makes my skin crawl.

Ducklings and Mother

We went to Wilmington and Carolina Beach for a few days this weekend, and on one of the days we visited Greenfield Lake in Wilmington. As usual, there was an abundance of wildlife on the shores around the lake, including a mother duck and her flock of adorable ducklings.

Framed Gibbon

One of my favorite photos from our recent Baltimore/Washington, D.C. trip. We had never had much luck getting a good look at gibbons in zoos, much less take good photos of them, but this female gibbon at the National Zoo in D.C. was very cooperative and held this pose for quite a while.
